World Traveller

It’s the 23rd of January (my birthday). I was so thrilled when I realised I was going to Costa Rica. I packed my bags and I even double checked to see if I got everything. I was pacing up and down because I just couldn’t wait any longer. I checked the tie and realised that I should because I was leaving for the airport soon. 10 minutes later I called an uber and left for the airport. It's 3:15 and I just checked in and now I’m walking to the private seating area within 30 minutes till I get on the plane. While I was waiting I was reading a book. After 30 minutes I headed in the plane. Before I knew it the plane landed and I got off. My friends and family were already there waiting for me, I was so happy and excited when I saw them. I went straight to bed because I was so exhausted. The next morning we went to this restaurant called  restaurante La Leda. The restaurant served fresh fruit, fresh fish, tropical drinks right on the beach, you can enjoy eating while looking at the beautiful view. Later we went to the Arenal volcano where you can hike and there are hot springs where you can also enjoy the gorgeous view there is. The next day we went to Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio. It has beaches, rainforest and a diverse wildlife but the weather wasn’t as good as yesterday it was more windy and cloudy but we still had an amazing time. We left to go back to the hotel and put everything away and celebrated my birthday at the most popular restaurant called HiR Fine Dining but you could either eat in nature or eat at the chefs home. They will present to you 7 special courses and you can ask any questions and any foods you want to eat. Sadly it had to come to an end and we had to leave, I was sad and happy at the same time because I came to this country and celebrated it with the ones I love. We left and started packing to go to the airport. 10 hours late I was back home and missing Costa Rica and wish to go the again.

English - The Hunter Swoop

There are lots of dead bushes and the sky looks very cloudy. Across from the other side you can see part of some snowy mountains and the dry land with some green plants. You can see frosty clouds hovering around the mountains. Grey, frosty, gravel concrete and marks around the road.  Frosty yellow lines leading towards the mountains with a uneven road.

Wet, chard and burnt trees all keep going to the end of the forest. Below the trees the a wet yellow  Across the other side there are the same things. Dark, wet, dirty and looking toxic with dead leaves drifting around the water. Shadows reflected in the cold and dark water.

Dangers of eavesdropping

Sitting outside the principal's office, waiting to discuss whatever it is you’ve been caught doing this week when you catch a snippet of conversation through the door. “Buried under the playground parents already know, you're going over and over about what you think you did in your head but nothing seems to be the reason. You keep questioning yourself about what it could be, maybe they were talking about how you stole a kids mini toy car and buried it under the ground. you forgot the time where you were angry at your parents so you took your mum's wedding ring and buried it down and under the playground. The only question you had was how they knew it was buried under the playground. You didn’t really think too much of it so you just forget about it. You didn’t know either to be relieved or worried for what they are going to do to you. If you confront them first then you can apologise and return the ring back because honestly is the best policy. They all came out and you own up to the mistake and luckily you don’t have a punishment but will have to watch out next time.

PARTNER PICTURE PROMPT
Plan:
When? Early in the morning
Where? In the Amazon Forest
Who? Hippo, David
How? Camping
What? David is getting chased by the hippo.
Why? The hippo smelt food
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As David woke up somewhere around the Amazon forest, he heard a loud grunt outside his tent.
He sees a shadow creeping up towards him and BOOM the hippo crashes the tent just like so.
Once the hippo found out he had food he went ballistic and stomped on his tent smashing and
trampling on all of his belongings leaving very little of his valuables left.
David ran out as fast as he could before the hippo could possibly injure him, but instead
the hippo’s reflexes were fast and nipped on his clothes off of David including his
undergarments. The hippo quickly tried to catch up, David sidestepping the monstrous
beast leading the herbivore to smash into a tree and end up getting concussed badly.
But that did not stop the beast as he still chased after him. All of a sudden David trips
over a large rock falling right beside a Brazilian wandering spider, he is shocked as the
spider penetrates his fang into his flesh he quickly rushes to his car to get inside the
trunk without realising in the situation he is left there to rot and die alone.

P.E

On athletics day I decided to do social. For social the sports we did long jump, sprints, discus.  I liked doing long jump because fun, easy and quick. Something that could've have better was if we did more sports like high jump and shot put. I could definitely improve on throwing the javelin because I can't throw it at all.

Inside A Bag
I wake up, I'm surrounded in nothing but darkness and I feel like I’m suffocating from where I am. It’s so loud as if there’s people around me and I’m trying to escape but there’s nothing I can do because I can’t see. I realised I’ve been trying to escape for at least 10 minutes to only realise I carry around a mini torch. I quickly try and turn on the torch and I never believe where I was. I was so flustered on how I got here and how I ended up in a bag. So I’m trying to find where the zipper to only realise it was tampered. Filling with adrenaline I yell “Help Help” to see if anyone would respond but it was useless no one helped and I was stuck. I felt helpless and all I thought was that I should just give up. All of a sudden Someone pulled open my bag and helped me up and then left in a hurry. I was still wondering how I got there in the first place. I couldn’t tell if I should be happy or shocked but it didn’t matter because I was free.

Social Studies

Iqbal was in bonded labour since he was 4 years old.
This was unfair because he had to work at such a young age.
Iqbal had to work twelve hours a day for up to six days a week.
When Iqbal was in bonded labour, he couldn’t see his family anymore.
When he was 4 years old, he had to work all day and only had a break for lunch.
Iqbal lost the right to education. Iqbal was also physically and mentally abused.
The only way he could have gone back to his family was paying back the debt.
The debt was never removed so if he was still there then he would be working.
The loss of Iqbal's human rights changed him forever.

Hussain Khan used kids as slaves for his indentured labour.  Most of the slaves he has are children, the reason is because it’s sustainable. Children would have smaller portions than adults. This would make Hussain Khan pay less for them. Another reason is that kids are more likely to obey Hussain rather than fight back. Hassain Khan has lots of ways to make his economy better.

Critical Literacy

In a video we saw it was set in the 70's. There was a stereotype that was about how woman do the inside work like cleaning, cooking etc and the men were doing the outdoor work. The feminine woman would wear big dresses with a low cut and have their hair done just to do housework. The masculine men would betrayed as working outside.

Another video we watched was stereotyped to how blonde people are dumb and the men were cocky. The blonde person is portrayed still as wearing a dress. The men are suppose to be the smart and the woman is suppose to follow.

How are adults constructed in this text? Females should be second to males in both texts. Woman in the 1st text is ambitionless and the 2nd wants to be lawyer, the stereotype that blondes can be smart.

What kind of social reality does this text portray? Life wasn't fun, people don't want to do things outside their stereotypes - e.g men in the garden and woman in the kitchen. The second clip is set in 30 years later woman and men can do the same jobs and have the same opportunities.

How does this text construct a version of reality? Draws from history, finds examples of props and setting that actually existed in the time period.

What different interpretations of the text are possible? Yes - we can view the shift from men being positive to being put down, we can view the shift in society and cultural values- there is more to life than a house, dog and kids.

Synophis - In the video there was guys drinking but one of them was suppose to be sober and then ended up crashing the car a killed a person.

Synophis - there was a guy who saw another person drinking that was suppose to be driving so the person told him to stay and not drive.

Is it a fair text? No because it was targeting men not woman and was only Maori and pi.

How are teenagers or young adults constructed in this text?
Stupid and irresponsible young adults.

How does the text present age, gender or cultural groups?
It was mostly young adult men that are maori or pi.

English

In English we were watching two videos about abusive relationships. We had to answer and write some questions about the videos we chose to do. This shows my learning because we both got it done in a short amount of time.
