Maths

In maths I learnt how to figure out how to use diameter, circumference and radius. A diameter is half of a circle. A circumference is the entire circle. A radius is half of the circle and half it again.  Something I also learnt was pi and how it can help you figure out a maths question.
A vocabulary I learnt was pi because before I knew what it was I never used it to help me.

Science

Aim: To separate the different pigments in links or dyes

Method:
1. Cut a strip of filter paper that long enough to reach the bottom of your piece of paper.
2. Rule a line in pencil approximately 2 cm from the bottom of your piece of paper.
3. Fill your beaker with enough chromatography solution to fill your beaker to a depth of 1 cm.
4.Place a dot of link above the ruled lines on your filtered paper. You need to produce a concentrated dot of link so repeated applications may may be necessary.
5. Suspend the strip of paper from a pencil or stick. You may need to use adhesive tape to stop it from falling into the solution.
6. Wait to see what happens. It is important that you do not disturb the beaker. If the solution comes in contact with the link dot, the link will run down the solution, rather than move up the filter paper.

Discussion: Chromatography is separating a mixture of coloured compound. The filter paper went in the test tube of water and absorbed the filter paper to make the paper dye with colours.

Science

Aim: To separate a solute from solvent in a solution using evaporation.

Method:
1. Set up the Bunsen burner, tripod and gauze mat. Don't place the Bunsen burner under the tripod.
2. Add approximately 50 ml of hot water to your beaker and place it on top of the tripod, on the gauze mat.
3. add enough copper sulfate solution to quarter fill the evaporating basin.
4. Carefully place the evaporating basin on top on the beaker.
5. Light your Bunsen burner. Open the air hole and gently push the Bunsen Burner under the tripod.
6. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute forming.
7. Turn of your Bunsen burner

Results: The end turned out to have blue copper sulfate crystals at the bottom.

Discussion: the sulfate solution Evaporated into Crystals. The solvent was the water that was in it and the solute was the copper sulfate crystals.

Science

Results: The coke was boiling and the water vapour went through the delivery tube.

Discussion: We boiled the water then evaporated through the delivery tube. The water vapour was going through the delivery tube and condensing back to and liquid. The distillation is the process of what were doing with the coke. The solvent was the liquid we used which was the water vapour. The solution is the coke. The water vapour is condensing back to a liquid. The solute was the tar and the sugar.

English

Today in English we got to pick what we wanted to do and I did drawing. I did drawing because I'm not good and so I wanted to get better and it. Here is a picture of what I drew and hope you enjoy.

Drama

Today in drama all the year 9's and 10's watched a comedy play called the Taming Of The Shrew.
The things I like about the play was:
How they were energetic
They were really funny
Songs were good

The things I disliked about the play was:
how the singing wasn't that good
how they kissed
some of the costumes they were wearing

Some examples are:
When they kissed it was kind of weird.
The costumes were weird and sometimes how they put stuff in their pants.

Science

AIm: To make a dilution series to investigate concentration.
Method: Place the six test tubes in a test tube rack. Label the rack with numbers with 1-6 .
1.Using the measuring cylinder, fill the remaining test tube 1 with 10 ml of water. Fill the remaining test tube with 5 ml of water.
Using your tweezers, add a single crystal of potassium permanganate to test tube 1.
Gently shake the test tube until the test tube dissolve.
Using the transfer pipette, carefully remove exactly 5 ml from test tube 1 and pour it into test tube 2.
Rinse the transfer pipette again and repeat the transfer process, transferring exactly 5 ml of the solution from test tube 2 to test tube 3.
Rinse the pipette again and repeat the transfer process, for test tube 4,5 and 6.

Results: Each time we transferred the liquid to the other test tubes the colour gets lighter.

Dissolution: Solute is the crystals (potassium permanganate) we put in water to make it change colour. Solvent is the water (liquid) we used. Solution is when the solute and solvent  are mixed together. Dilute is when you add more water and make it more lighter. Concentrated is when there's not that much water and the solution is strong.

English

Today when I did silent reading the story I was reading is called Scary Places by Jim Whiting. This story is a mix of non fiction and fiction because some of the places seem true but it's put to you what you think about it. Mysterious things happen all over the world like ships missing, faces on the ground and no one knows why these thing happen.

1. More than 100 planes and ships went missing what's called the Bermuda Triangle.
2.In 1971 Maria Pereira saw something scary. A face appeared on the floor even when they tried to replaced it.
3. People have visited Kentucky Mammoth cave and seen over 150 ghosts.
